Sequence Strategy

Describe you strategy to win the Sequence game every time. Did your strategy work? Why or why not?

  1. Our strategy consisted of many different things. One of the main things was to play defense and to not give away your thoughts out loud. Another few things that helped us were using the 1 eye jacks and playing near the corners so you could use a free space. Last but not least it was important to make sure you drew your card so you had enough after making a move. Our strategies worked for us because we won most our games that we played.

  2. Some strategies James and I used were;
    1. If the other team has 4 and you have a 1 eyed Jack, use it.
    2. Start on the edge if possible.
    3. Play offense first.
    4. If you have a 2 eyed Jack, use it last in your sequence.
    5. Do not give away your thoughts.
    6. Start by finding one on a corner or any two that are next to or very close to each other.
    7. Never forget to draw your card.

    These strategies were successful for my partner and I when playing. The only time we struggled is when we were dealt a terrible hand. Instead, we were forced to play defense and we blocked a few sequences from other teams. Later in the game we came out winning.

  3. The strategy that Brandon and I had was pretty simple but didn’t always work out to our advantage. One of our key was starting off a piece in one of the corners so you can have to pieces in a row right from the start. We tried to get 3 or 4 pieces in a row so we had more options to go to for sequences without the other teams trying to block us. We didn’t win as many games as I would have hoped but we had the right mindset, I think if we would have played defense more often maybe it would have set up more opportunities because that’s what the other teams did.

  4. The strategy that Alec and I used was that we were going to start by playing defense then we would start playing chips that were close to the pieces we had already played in order to win the game. But our strategy only happened to work once. For the most part our strategy worked because we were stopping everyone else from making moves then we would try and make something out of nothing. All the other groups had good strategies also because there would be points in the game where each of the 3 groups would be really close to winning, so it would force the other groups to make a defensive move and stop them from getting 5 pieces in a row.

  5. The strategy in which we used to win the board game sequence was a good one for defense, and was good in theory for offense however the execution state of the strategy was slightly flawed. Our strategy was to attempt to narrow our playing position to one are of the board rather then spread are pieces all out. This however was a futile attempt as that sometimes the cards you were dealt were impossible to execute this strategy. Our strategy was to simply focus in on getting multiple rows in a line of four spaces, so that we had multiple places to place the wining piece. However, this strategy was more than flawed because sometimes it was impossible to block another team’s move, if you did not have the card to do so. And you can’t assume another team will block a move for you team as that your defense is there offense. So overall the strategy was good but I lacked the execution state in the game.

  6. Bdog and I started on defense then began to place pieces near other ones we already placed. It worked once. We managed to stop others from making moves before bluffing and turning the bluff into something better.

    Nearly every game, all of the teams seemed to be ahead at any moment. We did have several moments where we frustrated each other a lot.
